Students highlight school activities; sophomore pitches moderated student platform

Students presented highlights from across the district during the April 3 meeting. Eighth-grader Zora Alvarado told the board about club activities, the Hope Olympics fundraiser (she said the group raised over $100,000 and expected final numbers next week), spring sports wins and upcoming events as she closes her middle-school years.
High-school representative Beatrice Cox updated the board on athletics, arts events and a recent job fair for students. Coopertown Elementary introduced fifth-grade student Jack Kavanaugh, who has been producing and delivering morning sports announcements for the school; board members praised his presentation and noted he will emcee the district track meet.
During the public-comment portion, Haverford High sophomore Chase Zao proposed a moderated student hub where clubs could share announcements, a centralized calendar and curated student content. He offered to help build and moderate the site and asked the district for follow-up. The board asked staff to arrange a follow-up contact with the student.
These student presentations were framed as part of the board's regular student-report agenda and the subsequent public-comment item; no board action was required on the student proposals at this meeting.
