Facilitator outlines Haverford Township SD's new 18-month strategic plan focus areas

Judy Wilson, who facilitated the district's strategic-planning process, told the Haverford Township School Board on April 3 that a year'long review produced four major, districtwide goal areas: academic excellence for an evolving world; belonging; social-emotional competence; and community pride and civic engagement.
The plan grew from a mix of engagement activities Wilson described to the board: more than 4,600 survey responses, 25 one-on-one interviews with local leaders, seven public forums and a two-day convening of about 38 core-team participants. "We will lead and support the academic growth of all learners and will guide them to be intellectually curious, empathetic, hardworking, persistent, resilient, and kind," Wilson said, summarizing the commitment that will guide action teams.
Board members asked how the new goals relate to the previous plan and how work will continue during the district's leadership transition. Wilson said the new plan is both an evolution and a continuation: "Much of that work will continue, but what rises to the top will look different in the action plans," she said, noting the district's intent to keep measurable benchmarks and progress markers.
Next steps include establishing action-plan co-chairs for each goal area, with teams assembling community members and staff to produce 18-month work plans. Wilson said the co-chairs met recently and the teams will likely present action plans before June 1, with recommended summer work to prepare implementation.
Wilson emphasized student voice in the process and said many student participants helped shape priorities. The board was told it will receive monthly communications about progress through existing district channels, including the "60 seconds with the superintendent" updates and district newsletters.
The board thanked Wilson and the community members who participated; no formal vote was required on the presentation. The district will bring specific action plans and implementation details to future meetings for review and approval.
