Somerville committee holds Eversource Warwick Street conduit request while division clarifies use of spare conduits

The Somerville Licenses & Permits Committee decided to hold in committee an Eversource grant-of-location request to install 38 feet of conduit on Warwick Street to serve 16 Warwick Street while Eversource’s division clarifies whether spare conduits already on the pole can be used.
Resident Matthew Penny (19 Warwick Street) told the committee he has asked Eversource whether the two empty conduits already on the pole would be used instead of adding new conduits or additional rises. "I don't understand if they are going to use those empty conduits ... or are they gonna try to add more conduits?" Penny asked.
Jackie Duffy, the Eversource representative, said she had sent inquiries to the division and had not yet received an answer on whether the spares can be used. Committee members noted there is no rush because the winter moratorium will prevent work until spring, and they agreed it was reasonable to keep the item in committee pending a definitive reply from Eversource’s engineering division.
Clerk Wells confirmed that because the item was referred to committee, it can remain there awaiting action and does not need to be resubmitted. The committee took no final vote on this item and did not approve installation.
