Somerville committee hears rodent-control updates; fertility-control pilot shows strong bait uptake

At a remote meeting of the Somerville City Council Road and Issues Special Committee, staff from Inspectional Services and Environmental Health updated the committee on ongoing rodent-control work, including an early-stage fertility-control pilot and expanded monitoring and enforcement efforts.
Environmental Health Coordinator Alicia Privet said the city has “some initial data” from the fertility-control pilot using the Evolve product at Somerville High School and in Lincoln Park but cautioned it is too early for definitive conclusions. “We are still collecting a bunch of data, and we have started our analysis phase right now,” Privet said. She said bait boxes showed “high activity, a lot of consumption of the bait,” and that staff will cross-check SmartBox and 3-1-1 complaint data to assess population-level effects.
