Finance committee recommends $103,421 transfer to cover municipal employee vacation payouts under unit B MOA

Chair Ben Wheeler introduced the item and asked Matt Sirigu, labor counsel from the law department, to explain. Sirigu said the MOA resolves multiple interpretations of recent contract language on vacation accrual and carryover so no employee loses vacation time. The MOA pays out large vacation balances, gives some employees extra time to use mid‑range balances, and awards up to two additional weeks to certain employees during calendar year 2026; the long‑term aim is to cap carryover at three weeks.
Sirigu said the approach avoids an accounting burden and ensures employees are not deprived of time they have earned. After his explanation there were no committee questions; the item was laid on the table and then included in the combined roll‑call recommendation approving laid items.
