Committee approves Eversource grant of location on Warwick Street with work-order condition

Chair Hart and the Licenses and Permits Committee voted to approve a grant of location allowing Eversource to install 38 feet of conduit on Warwick Street from utility pole 357 to a pickup point at 16 Warwick Street, with a condition that the company adhere to a stipulation recorded in the work order.

The condition followed a presentation by an applicant representative, Jacqueline Duffy, who said the company had coordinated with a neighbor, "Matt Penny," and planned to straighten the pole and "use the existing conduits" and two empty risers rather than add new risers. "We're gonna straighten the pole in the new conduit across the street," Duffy said. The committee included that agreement as a condition and voted on the condition separately before voting on the overall grant-of-location.

Councilor Sayed asked staff and the applicant to check whether a separate cable or internet project (mentioned as Comcast) had already applied at the same address so the two projects could be coordinated and the street not dug twice. Duffy told the committee she would confirm whether the other company had applied; Assistant City Clerk Michael Poteer said staff could record the stipulation as a condition and take two votes (one on the condition and one on the item) to reflect that arrangement.

The committee's recorded vote on the condition and on the item itself was unanimous: Councilor Davis, Councilor Wheeler and Chair Hart voted "yes." The item was recommended for approval with the stated condition. The committee did not add new risers beyond the planned conduit, and staff stated the condition would be included in the work order that implements the installation.

The approval allows Eversource to proceed under the committee's condition; any separate utility or cable work on Warwick Street should be coordinated afterward if other applicants have filed applications.
