Fielding Elementary principal and residents press council for parking solutions as enrollment grows

Fielding Elementary Principal Mr. Green told the Town Council during public comment that parent parking at the school has become ‘‘very congested’’ as enrollment rises and more parents pick up students.
"More and more kids are coming every year which means more parents parking," Mr. Green said, and he proposed adding parking spaces on the north side of the school next year. Resident Denise Anger also spoke in support of addressing parking congestion and asked whether the town could encourage parents to use the school bus rather than drive for pick-up.
Council members, including Mayor Chuck Earl, noted the school expects two additional classrooms next year and said that any on-street or off-site parking changes would require a formal plan from School Board engineers before the council could consider regulatory or infrastructure changes. The minutes record discussion of possible parking on 100 North or Center Street but no formal action or ordinance was taken.
The council advised coordination with the School Board and its engineers and emphasized that the town cannot vote on parking changes until a concrete plan and traffic/safety review are presented.
