Finance committee recommends broad block of routine items for council approval; several items kept in committee
Summary
The committee recommended approval of minutes, multiple grants, routine contract extensions, appropriations and settlements (items 1–30, 32–34, 36) and left items 31, 37, 38 and 39 in committee for additional review. Item 35 (fire HQ camera grant) was not recommended.
After nearly three hours of presentations and questions on a 39‑item agenda, the Somerville Finance Committee recommended approval of a large block of routine matters and deferred several items that require additional review.
The committee recommended approval of agenda items 1 through 30, items 32 through 34, and item 36 (which includes minutes; various grant acceptances for DPW, Council on Aging, and public‑safety grants; time‑only contract extensions; and prior‑year invoice payments). Several items were explicitly kept in committee for follow‑up (including UASI surveillance purchases and an SRT equipment item) or laid on the table for later action at the council meeting. Item 35 — a $48,000 UASI grant to replace perimeter cameras at the fire department headquarters — was not recommended after a roll call produced three no votes to two yes votes.
The clerk summarized the committee dispositions at the meeting’s close and the chair adjourned.
