Stanley honors retiring Town Manager Heath R. Jenkins after decades of service

The Stanley Town Council on Dec. 1 honored Town Manager Heath R. Jenkins as he retires after decades of municipal service.
Council members, department heads and local clergy paid tribute to Jenkins’ long career. Deputy Town Manager Steven Denton said it had been an “honor” to work alongside Jenkins and highlighted the respect he earned from managers and elected officials countywide. Police Chief Derek Summey traced Jenkins’ public service back to 1988 and credited him with modernizing town operations, saying Jenkins helped move the department from paper records to a digital records-management system.
The council and staff presented Jenkins with a commemorative box and noted his public service spanning July 25, 1988, to Dec. 30, 2025. Jenkins, who also served 13 years as Stanley’s town manager, thanked the council and staff and said he had “enjoyed most every minute of it.”
The tributes emphasized both Jenkins’ institutional knowledge and his support for upgrades that brought Stanley “into the 21st century,” according to Chief Summey, who praised Jenkins’ investments in technology and equipment while allowing department leaders autonomy.
The meeting closed with members and clergy offering personal reflections on Jenkins’ leadership as he prepares to leave office.
