American Legion Riders ask Visalia for help after Veterans Memorial bookings limit use

Louisa Carson, director of the American Legion Riders in Visalia, asked the City Council for assistance finding a location after her group lost access to the Visalia Veterans Memorial Building because the facility is being booked by other organizations.
"We meet at the Visalia Veterans Memorial Building. However, that building is being outsourced to other groups, making it impossible for us to hold events there," Carson said. She said parking at the building is "atrocious" and that the post often does not receive first dibs on booking despite being a veterans organization tied to the facility.
Carson said the Riders hold two major events, including a suicide-awareness ride scheduled for March 21, and that they had to move that event to a Harley-Davidson location because they could not secure space at the memorial building. She identified Michael Phillips as the post commander and said the group would welcome city assistance to identify an alternate building or a way to restore regular access.
The chair asked Carson to leave contact information with the city clerk so staff could follow up. No formal council action was recorded during the meeting on the request.
