Fulton County approves HR manual amendment proposal and reclassifies veterans director as full‑time

HR Administrator Mary Huston presented proposed language to update benefit rules, which the board asked Huston to prepare in formal draft language for a future approval vote. Commissioner Steven L. Wible moved to accept Huston’s proposal; the board voted unanimously to support moving the proposed changes forward.
Separately, Commissioner Hervey P. Hann moved to approve Veterans Affairs Director Richard Newman to work the equivalent of 30 hours per week so he qualifies as a full‑time employee with benefits. The motion noted the change was prompted by additional duties assigned by the state related to the Disabled Veterans Real Estate Tax Exemption. The motion passed unanimously.
What happens next: Huston will return with formal HR Manual language under Section 212 for official adoption. The personnel status change for the Veterans Affairs director was approved in open session and will be implemented by county HR and payroll staff.
