The Alameda County Board of Supervisors on March 3 advanced Measure W Home Together awards totaling nearly $53 million to support affordable and supportive housing projects across the county.
City and project representatives, including Faye Darmawi (City of Oakland housing deputy director) and developers from Eden Housing and SAHA, thanked the board for the awards and urged approval. County staff said the RFP prioritized shovel‑ready projects that can leverage state funding and that approximately 85–90 projects are in predevelopment across the county. Staff reported that the board’s awards include projects that will create hundreds of affordable units, including supportive housing for people experiencing homelessness.
Supervisors sought assurances about geographic distribution and tracking. Several supervisors asked staff to return to the Health Committee with updates on when awarded units will move into construction and occupancy, and requested clearer public messaging about Measure W funds and balances so voters understand how revenues and prior appropriations are being used.
Public commenters urged that pediatric portions of Measure C funds be spent in Oakland and asked for auditing and community engagement by recipients. The board included the Measure W awards as part of a mass consent motion; supervisors also discussed possible future RFPs for rehabilitation, acquisition/rehab and shelter preservation later in the year.
Staff said the county anticipates bringing additional Measure W updates and that planned reports will include timelines for leveraging state tax credits and Homekey funding. The board approved the consent motion that included the Measure W awards by roll call vote.
