Eatonville council backs keeping Millpond Park plan, asks staff to cover $24,000 shortfall

Town Administrator Eric Phillips briefed the council on the Millpond Park Improvements, saying the project currently faces a budget gap and that the Town could consider using Sourcewell for general contracting. Phillips presented alternatives including shortening the fence around the basketball court or building a smaller court to reduce costs.
Councilmembers expressed a preference to maintain the project as designed. Councilmember Peter Paul said the council would like the full design preserved and asked staff to explore adding approximately $24,000 in Town funding to the project if possible. Councilmember Colin Stephens echoed the request for the draft agreements and further information.
The council did not take a formal binding vote on a funding transfer at the meeting; the matter remains a staff action item for follow-up. Town staff will return with more detailed cost estimates and options for covering the $24,000 gap, including potential use of Sourcewell contracting and internal budget reallocations.
Background: The Millpond Park Improvement Project is part of the town’s public-works priorities. At the Feb. 23 meeting, the public-works update and the council’s direction were the only formal actions taken on the project; no contract award or final appropriation was approved.
