Summary
The Los Alamos County Planning and Zoning Commission on Feb. 25 re-elected Commissioner Easton as chair and selected David Hampton as vice chair. The commission approved its agenda and minutes, moved a signage-code discussion to April 8 and noted a March 11 open house on the comprehensive plan.
The Los Alamos County Planning and Zoning Commission re-elected Commissioner Easton as chair and chose David Hampton as vice chair during a brief meeting on Feb. 25, approving an amended agenda and agreeing to reschedule a planned signage-code discussion.
The action reshuffled only procedural business: Chair Easton presented an amendment to move consideration of the Los Alamos County Development Code, Chapter 16, Article 4, Division 8 (signage) to April 8. “We are moving the Los Alamos County Development Code chapter 16 article 4 division 8 signage discussion to April 8,” Commissioner Easton said. The motion to approve the agenda as amended was made and seconded and carried by voice/hand vote; no roll-call tally was provided on the record.
Commissioners then moved to approve the minutes from the Jan. 14, 2026 meeting. A motion to approve the minutes was made, seconded and approved by vote.
During commission business, members nominated and confirmed leadership for the year. Commissioner Easton was nominated and confirmed as chair; David Hampton was nominated and confirmed as vice chair. Votes were conducted by raised hands; the commission recorded that the motions passed but did not record individual vote tallies in the meeting minutes.
Planning staff announced logistical changes to the schedule: the commission will not hold its regular P&Z meeting on March 11 and staff invited commissioners and the public to an open house hosted by the comprehensive-plan amendment consultants, CZB, in Chambers from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Staff stressed the importance of commissioner attendance at the March 25 meeting, when two significant cases are expected.
The meeting proceeded without extended discussion and adjourned after brief commissioner remarks.
The commission’s next procedural items include the moved signage discussion on April 8 and the March 25 hearing with the two noted cases.
