Council reviews bids for regional fire-training center; low bidder quoted $695,000

Staff reported five bids from four firms for the training center and said the low bidder was Fire Frame Training with a bid of $695,000. Staff told council they have been working with the low bidder on contract details and expect to bring a formal contract for council approval at a future meeting. Completion was estimated to be in the April–June timeframe the following year, depending on contracting and scheduling.
Separately, staff presented three quotes for demolition and a new concrete pad for the site; the lowest quote for the pad was $50,892 from Daylight Security Structure. Council members voiced support to move forward with the procurement process and requested staff to return with final documents for formal council action.
Council discussion emphasized the training center’s benefit to firefighter preparedness and potential positive effects on the community’s ISO insurance rating, which could reduce insurance costs for businesses.
