Goodman said the advanced water-treatment facility’s engineer’s estimate is approximately $31,000,000 — about a 50% increase versus earlier estimates — and staff is continuing discussions with consultants and the Los Angeles Regional Water Quality Control Board on options that could avoid building the full advanced treatment plant.
Goodman also outlined ongoing projects (Peck Road waterline complete; Canyon booster rehab underway; Mill Street sewer replacement completed) and noted the division produced roughly 563,000,000 gallons of water during the period and installed 460 new meters as the system replaces manual-read devices.
On the microgrid application, Goodman said the city requested $12,550,000 (out of a possible $18,000,000) to design and install a system that would power the senior center, the water-treatment plant and the Main Street fire station during power outages, reducing reliance on diesel generators for at least 24 hours and possibly longer depending on solar input.
Council members asked about project timelines, public notification of road closures and customer outreach on newly installed automated meters; Goodman said the city will update the online public-works project map, distribute door-hangers and explore customer outreach about meter-monitoring services. No formal action was taken; staff will return as projects advance.
