Parks and Recreation Director Adolfo Marquez told the council that staff began outreach to pyrotechnic companies two years ago but several vendors declined to provide a July 4 show, so staff structured the event to include fireworks on July 3. He presented a two‑day lineup of tribute bands, family attractions (rockwall, Ferris wheel, giant slide), and production costs; staff said the mid‑year budget included $250,000 to supplement the annual $91,000 event allocation.
Marquez highlighted line items in the proposal: fireworks ($28,520), laser light show ($65,000) and carnival rides ($114,528). Councilmembers discussed alternatives such as drone shows and the laser light show’s performance, and asked staff to continue outreach to pyrotechnic vendors for future years. "We definitely could" explore a drone show if council prefers, Marquez said.
Council approved the staff proposal and budget direction to present options for the second day’s programming in the future; staff will return with additional programming options and procurement details as needed.
