Cramerton honors outgoing commissioners and presents Citizens of the Year awards

The Town of Cramerton recognized outgoing board members and presented awards at its Dec. 12 meeting before swearing in newly elected commissioners.
Mayor Nelson Wills read proclamations honoring Chris and Sharon Wooten as Cramerton’s 2023 Citizens of the Year and presented a Lifetime Achievement Award to Rhett Cozart. The recognitions were presented during the outgoing board’s agenda.
Outgoing Mayor Pro Tem Susan Neeley reflected on 18 years of service, recounted how she first engaged with the town through public comment and later service on the Planning and Zoning Board, and thanked town staff and the leadership team. "Never forget that each of you makes a difference every day to others," she said, offering a closing message of appreciation.
Commissioner Houston Helms, marking his final meeting after 14 years, thanked residents and staff and said he would continue to serve the town in other capacities; staff later presented Helms with a custom comic-book–style art hanging. Representative Donnie Loftis of North Carolina’s 109th District recognized Helms with a House certificate of acknowledgement and congratulations.
Shortly after the recognitions, Hon. Justin Davis, a North Carolina Superior Court judge, administered the oath of office to Dixie Abernathy, Jennifer Ramsey and Richard Atkinson for four-year terms. Oaths and signed records are on file with the town clerk.
The meeting recessed for 15 minutes and later continued with organizational business and routine staff reports before adjourning.
