The Olympia City Council received a briefing from the Council of Neighborhood Associations (CNA) on March 3 about a community priorities survey and a packed January forum.
Daniel Garcia, CNA communications coordinator, said 143 people responded to the survey. Food access, emergency preparedness and affordability emerged as the top priorities overall; younger respondents prioritized emergency preparedness and mutual aid, while longer‑term residents emphasized safety and livability. Garcia said the CNA will use the survey to inform neighborhood matching grant applications and recommended more topic‑focused forums (for example, a food‑system forum or sidewalk/ADA outreach).
Council members responded positively and discussed reconnecting on a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to formalize CNA's role; staff said bridging forums and targeted engagement could help inform council work plans and neighborhood projects. The CNA emphasized outreach to renters and younger residents and suggested using neighborhood matching grants as a concrete pathway for neighborhood ideas to be implemented.
No council action was required; council members encouraged follow up and stronger coordination between CNA, city staff and council committees.
