Virginia Clough briefed council on three key updates: confirmation of the roughly $4 million CDS award sponsored by Congressman Baumgartner and supported by Senator Cantwell for Sullivan‑Trent; a request to add $400,000 to pursue design funds for the Barker I‑90 interchange (with a goal of securing $4 million for design); and inclusion of a $20.8 million BUILD program application submitted for Sullivan‑Trent that is currently pending.
Council discussed additional priorities and a proposed amendment to add federal support for forest management; that amendment failed for lack of a second. Council approved the amendment to the agenda that incorporated the funding updates and staff said the changes affect page 1 of the document, not the policy sections.
City manager John Homan said staff and the lobbyist have already arranged many meetings in Washington, D.C. and that some of the timing for additional policy asks would be difficult to execute before upcoming travel, but that the updated packet better reflects current funding and project status.
Council voted to accept the amended federal legislative agenda.
