The Sultan School District Board of Directors voted on a package of routine but consequential items at its Aug. 26 meeting, adopting the district's appropriation resolution and approving personnel and community partnership measures.
The board adopted Resolution 24‑04 to fix appropriation amounts for the coming fiscal year. Board financial staff had earlier presented July budget status reports showing the district is working through a modest revenue shortfall but has narrowed a projected gap through spending controls and unanticipated revenues. Finance staff described general fund, capital projects, debt service and ASB balances in the packet.
The board also approved a collective bargaining agreement with PSE and completed second reads of multiple policies, including Policy 3226 (interviews and interrogations of students), Policy 3232 (parent and student rights on surveys) and Policy 3411 (accommodations for students with seizure disorders/epilepsy). In addition, trustees voted to accept a $5,900 donation from IBEW Local 191 intended to support senior lunches and related student needs.
All motions noted above were carried by voice vote at the meeting; the consent agenda was approved earlier in the session. The board chair stated these votes formalize the district's authority to expend budgeted money and to move forward with negotiated agreements and accepted community donations.
What happens next: board staff said the formal budget and appropriation documents will be filed per state requirements and that policy updates will be incorporated into the district handbook after the required readings.
