Representatives from Marsh & McLellan and Montana State Fund presented Flathead County commissioners with the county's share of the Montana State Fund dividend during the Nov. 13 meeting, praising the county's workplace safety culture and reporting improved claims metrics.
"We are here to present the Montana State Fund dividend return to Flathead County," said Doc Vivian of Marsh & McLellan. He said Montana State Fund returned $38.5 million to more than 22,000 policyholders this year and that Flathead County’s safety efforts drove a favorable claims experience, resulting in a dividend check of $176,400.30 to the county. Commissioners and staff noted fewer reported claims and lower costs compared with prior years.
Why it matters: annual dividends from Montana State Fund reflect underwriting results and can signal the financial benefit of safety programs. County officials tied the dividend to sustained attention to employee safety across departments and said the funds reflect reduced claims costs.
Next steps: no board action was required; commissioners accepted the presentation and thanked staff and the State Fund representatives.
