Flathead County commissioners on Thursday approved memorandums of understanding and contract addenda to extend a 2% pay increase to most unionized county employees and several non‑standard employment contracts.
The board moved and signed documents covering seven of eight union agreements and addenda for six individual employment contracts so those salaries align with the county's standard pay matrix. County HR staff explained the sworn officers were not part of the group MOUs because their pay application is handled under a different arrangement with the sheriff's office.
“Can't just unilaterally change wages for people who are covered by a collective bargaining agreement,” a staff member told commissioners as the MOUs were presented. Commissioner motioning to sign the documents was seconded, and the board unanimously approved the packet.
The addenda for six non‑standard employment agreements were described as the administrative mechanism required to extend the same 2% increase to those employees. Commissioners asked clarifying questions about which contracts were affected; staff listed the six positions during the discussion and confirmed FTE and pay‑grade impacts where applicable.
The action took place under routine documents-for-signature items and was recorded as passed without further amendment. The county clerk will finalize the signatures and file the executed MOUs and addenda.
