Summary
The House opened Jan. 13 with prayer and guest recognitions, adopted a joint resolution honoring Martin Luther King Jr., heard a member announce she will not seek reelection, and adjourned until Jan. 27, 2026.
The Maine House convened Jan. 13 with an invocation by Bishop James T. Rogeri and a musical performance; the Speaker recognized the medical provider of the day and several student groups in the gallery.
Members adopted several routine committee referrals and legislative sentiments, including a congratulatory sentiment for James and Teresa Porter’s 50th wedding anniversary and a retirement recognition for Tom Doak of Refield for his work with Maine Woodland Owners.
Representative Liberty of Auburn used her allotted time to announce she will not run for reelection and said she will continue advocacy work outside the legislature. The House read and adopted, in concurrence with the Senate, a joint resolution to commemorate Martin Luther King Jr. Day; members delivered remarks on democracy, nonviolence and civic engagement.
