Del Valle ISD honors students and named a Texas District of Distinction for arts

Del Valle ISD trustees recognized student achievement and celebrated a statewide fine‑arts honor at their board meeting.

The board acknowledged 14 Superintendent Students of the Month from elementary, middle and high schools; families were invited to come forward for photographs and each recognized student received an athletics pass and a yard sign.

The district’s Fine Arts department was presented as a Texas Art Education Association District of Distinction. Kathry Humphrey, introduced during the recognition, told the board that the award recognizes comprehensive integration of visual arts across curriculum and community. "Del Valley ISD has been recognized by the Texas Art Education Association as the District of Distinction," Humphrey said, noting the honor is awarded to roughly the top 4 percent of Texas districts and requires evidence of curriculum alignment, competitive participation and public exhibitions of student work.

Career and technical education highlights followed: a CTE representative described carpentry students’ recent work with hardwood and presented handcrafted boards finished in mineral oil and beeswax as tokens to trustees. The presenter said the students led most of the work and the items were a gift from students and CTE staff to the board.

What’s next: trustees accepted the recognitions and the board will continue public acknowledgement of staff and student accomplishments through the district’s social channels and presentations.
