Board approves guardrails for superintendent after public comment; vote 7–1

Brett Covington, the meeting’s lone public commenter, addressed the board before the vote. "I came tonight to address the subject of guardrails," Covington said, and told trustees that policies need to match the "reality on the ground." He criticized a prior district training tied to a laptop contract, saying it lasted only 13 minutes (from "4:02" to "4:15") and produced productivity losses for some staff who were learning a new system.
Trustee Pantoja moved the guardrails as presented and Vice President Cisneros seconded the motion. During discussion Secretary Wagner said she could not support the motion, arguing the provisions risked harmful downstream effects; "I am not supporting this because in my opinion these are ... and I don't want that to trickle down from the boards," Wagner said.
After discussion the board voted to approve the guardrails, 7 in favor and 1 opposed. The transcript records a roll-call-style tally as "Motion passes 7 to 1." The motion will govern board-superintendent interactions until any changes are brought back to the board.
