Summary
At a Dickinson ISD board meeting, trustees were honored for their volunteer service and district staff recognized dozens of junior-high and high-school students for district/regional TMEA honors and postseason athletic awards; the board heard no public comments before routine business concluded.
The Dickinson ISD Board of Trustees meeting opened with a board-appreciation segment recognizing seven trustees for volunteer service and campus-donated books before district staff presented awards to students across music and athletics programs.
District staff introduced Board Appreciation Month and presented brief tributes to each trustee, naming trustees and their represented schools: Jonathan Mills (District 3 — San Leon Elementary, Kenneth E. Little Elementary), Mary Anna Matin (District 7 — Hughes Road Elementary, Dickinson Junior High), Kenna Cotton (District 4 — Barber Middle, Kranz Junior High), Mike Mackey (District 1 — Dickinson High, Silbernego Elementary), Secretary Vania Vesey (District 2 — Dunbar Middle, Bay Colony Elementary), Vice President Jessica Rodriguez (District 6 — McAdams Junior High, Calder Road Elementary) and Board President Corey Magliolo (District 5 — Lobeth Elementary). Campus gifts and book titles presented in each trustee’s honor were listed on the record.
Dr. Paul Trajan, introduced as the district director of fine arts, led recognition of students who earned district- and region-level honors in band and choir. Trajan named students from McAdams, Kranz and Dickinson junior highs and Dickinson High School who placed in district and region band/choir auditions and advanced through the TMEA All-State process. He also summarized the Dickinson High marching band’s season, noting straight ones at region, a fourth-place area finish and a statewide standing among 6A bands. Choir and band directors for honored groups were identified by name.
Athletics recognitions followed. Katie Farias, who spoke as the Dickinson High School volleyball coach, listed players who earned all-district and academic honors and named the volleyball coaching staff. Henry Coleman, introduced as the assistant athletic director, detailed the varsity football team’s postseason honors, individual player awards and named head coach John Snelson as the district’s coach of the year; season records and postseason placements were announced.
There were no public commenters signed up during the open-forum slot. After recognitions the board proceeded to routine business and adjourned.
