Del Valle ISD board names the district’s second high school North Del Valley High School after split vote

A first motion to name the campus "North Valley High School" failed after a show-of-hands vote. Trustees then debated multiple options raised by the naming committee and community input, including references to Whisper Valley and keeping the Del Valle name element.
Trustee Cisneros moved to name the second high school "North Del Valley High School"; Secretary Guadion seconded the motion. The board approved the motion by a 5–2 vote. Operations staff explained that naming and branding must proceed well in advance because of lead time for signage, uniforms, field turf and other branded materials, and several trustees said timing to order materials was a factor in taking action now rather than deferring the decision.
Trustees discussed committee process and survey results: staff reported many community nominations for "Whisper Valley" but said the naming committee removed that option after committee discussion; trustees weighed community sentiment and the importance of district identity versus geographic specificity. The board announced the chosen name at the meeting; administrative staff will handle final spelling/branding details.
This action was a formal vote taken at the Nov. 4 special meeting; the board moved on to closed session afterward.
