Daniels County commissioners discussed several community-service items during the Nov. 3–17 sessions.
Arlene Kegley, Library Director, requested to hire a quarter-time position for a story hour program. On Nov. 17 Commissioner Fladager moved to approve the hire; Commissioner Thievin seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
Members of the Council on Aging asked the board to reclassify the senior center coordinator position to full time to allow time for cleaning duties; they also questioned why library and courthouse cleaning do not cover the senior center. The board said it would consider the request in next year’s budget.
The county reviewed a modified airport grant application for $59,000; civil-rights language had to be updated, requiring a new application to be signed. Extension Agent Inga Hawbaker requested quotes for electrical service, a concrete slab and a personnel hut for a pesticide container shredding facility and stated those costs would be reimbursed by the State of Montana. She also inquired about MSU Local Government Center board training.
Why it matters: Staffing decisions affect library programming and senior services; grant and facility projects could bring state-funded work and reimbursements to local contractors. The minutes record approvals and requests but often refer to follow-up actions rather than finalized contracts or hires.
What’s next: The library hire will be implemented; the board will consider senior center staffing in the next budget cycle. County staff to prepare updated airport grant paperwork and to solicit quotes for the pesticide container project.
