CRA staff say McCollum Hall redesign moving forward; CRA will act as developer and begin community updates

Hilton Terry (committee member) told the advisory board that Parker Majes Smith will work on the final design for McCollum Hall and that staff expect to hold quarterly community update meetings, with the first scheduled for Feb. 26 at the CRA office. Terry said staff gathered survey results reflecting community desires for restaurant, rental and performing‑arts uses and that the board previously gave direction to proceed with design work.
Terry also thanked Jerry Miller for helping secure a parcel transfer from the Florida Department of Transportation at the Fowler and MLK intersection and noted visible improvements on that corner. When asked, staff said the CRA intends to be the developer of the McCollum Hall parcel rather than issuing a request for proposals; phasing will depend on design, cost estimates and available funding.
The advisory board asked that community updates be widely shared and discussed whether update meetings should rotate locations; staff said the first update will be at the CRA office but that future sessions may move around the neighborhood. No formal actions were taken on McCollum Hall at this meeting; these were informational items and next steps will depend on design completion and funding decisions.
