Collierville approves purchase of 28-yard automated garbage truck; TDEC to reimburse half

The Collierville Board of Mayor and Aldermen on Oct. 13 approved the purchase of a 28-cubic-yard automated garbage truck through the Sourcewell cooperative contract (0110223-HTC), with a TDEC grant match to reimburse roughly half of the cost.
Assistant Public Works Director Clay Tyser told the board the town will pay the full price initially and "TDEC is gonna reimburse us for half the cost." He said the sanitation department uses four automated recycling trucks; the new vehicle will replace one primary truck and shift an existing primary truck to backup status, and unit 450 (a 2012 model) will be declared surplus.
After staff presented a sample motion and answered no further questions, a motion to approve the purchase was made, seconded and approved on roll call. Mayor Frazier thanked staff for securing the 50% grant.
Why it matters: the purchase modernizes the town’s sanitation fleet while leveraging TDEC grant funds to offset capital costs. Surplusing older equipment will be processed per town policy.
What’s next: Public Works will complete the procurement steps under the Sourcewell contract and arrange delivery and integration of the new vehicle into the fleet.
