Collierville advances no‑gift ethics policy on second reading; board cancels Dec. 22 meeting

The Collierville Board of Mayor and Aldermen on Nov. 10 approved an amendment on second reading to the town's code of ethics that replaces the existing nominal‑gift standard with a clear no‑gift policy for elected and appointed officials and town employees.
Town presenter Mr. Hamrick said the update aligns with guidance from the Tennessee Municipal Technical Advisory Service and reduces administrative burden by eliminating the need to track small gifts. "Shifting to a no gift standard simplifies compliance and ensures consistent expectations across our professional codes," he said, noting one narrow exception for consumable foods intended to be shared collectively within a workplace.
The board moved and seconded action on the ordinance and approved it on second reading by roll call. Town staff said the change will be codified and the personnel policy will be updated; the ordinance will return for final reading per standard procedure.
The board also approved a motion to cancel its Dec. 22, 2025 meeting because of its proximity to the holidays; town administrator Molly Maynor presented the cancellation request and the board voted in favor.
What comes next: Human Resources and town staff will update the personnel policy and publish the revised code once the ordinance completes required readings.
