Collierville board adopts ordinance raising purchasing thresholds to match state law

On second reading Nov. 24 the Collierville Board of Mayor and Aldermen adopted an ordinance amending the town’s purchasing and expenditure rules to match thresholds established by Tennessee Public Acts Chapter 513.
Finance Director Wells told the board the amendment is intended to speed procurement for smaller purchases by aligning local quote requirements with state law. Wells said the change adjusts the quote thresholds (making it easier for departments to proceed on smaller jobs where securing three quotes has been difficult) but does not affect construction bids, which must always follow formal procurement procedures.
Wells emphasized that purchases between $25,000 and $50,000 will continue to require town administrator approval and that any purchase above $50,000 still requires board approval. No members of the public spoke during the public hearing on the item. A motion to approve the second reading passed by roll call.
The ordinance is intended to provide departments more flexibility for small procurements while retaining board oversight for larger expenditures.
