The Board of Mayor and Aldermen voted Oct. 27 to accept an amended donation from Shelby County 911 and to ratify change orders for the police backup dispatch center renovation at Fire Station No. 4.
Police Chief Dale Lane and Captain Green described the project background: an initial Shelby County 911 donation of $515,000 was received in April 2024 and construction began in July 2025 with a contract awarded to A & B Construction. Structural issues and additional IT server‑room needs led to a series of change orders. Chief Lane said change orders 1–9 proceeded per town guidelines and that change orders 10–13 add equipment and electrical upgrades, increasing A & B Construction’s contract to $424,145.67 and adding 59 calendar days to the schedule, with a new projected completion date of Jan. 16, 2026.
Chief Lane said Shelby County 911 amended its funding agreement to provide an additional $307,000 to complete the project, bringing total Shelby County 911 support to $822,000. The board approved acceptance of the donation and then ratified the change orders and schedule extension in separate motions.
Staff noted the backup dispatch center was used successfully during the COVID period when the department split dispatch operations, and that the completed facility will support operational resilience.
