City approves agenda, proclaims National CRNA Week and recognizes staff certification

The North Port City Commission opened its Jan. 8 regular meeting, approved the agenda on a motion (passed 5–0) and conducted several proclamations and staff recognitions.
An anonymous emailed public comment, read by the city clerk, criticized the city’s rebranding effort as a waste of money. The commission then heard HR Director Christine McDade introduce several newly hired city employees across development services, public works and utilities.
The commission read a proclamation recognizing Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists and designating Jan. 18–24, 2026, as National CRNA Week; the city clerk identified Rebecca Fleetwood in the audience as a representative of local nurses. Later, the Parks & Recreation Department recognized Tom Brown for earning certification as a Parks and Recreation professional, praising his contributions to operations and safety.
There were no further public comments and the mayor adjourned the meeting at 4:34 p.m.
