North Port — The City Commission honored longtime resident Jill with a ceremonial key to the city and recognized her years of volunteerism, business leadership and prior public service.
A commissioner read a biographical tribute highlighting the honoree’s local business partnerships, nonprofit support and previous elected service; the recipient thanked the commission and community and invited volunteers and partners to the dais for mini keys and photographs.
“Saying thank you to Demetrius for not even knowing me, but coming up with this to the city commission…thank you for the honor,” the honoree said, accepting the recognition and thanking family and community members in the audience.
Before the recognition the city manager invited Sandy Knowles, human resources assistant director, to introduce new employees across city departments including the city attorney’s office, finance, grants, human resources, public works, parks and rec, fire, IT, development services and utilities. The commission and staff welcomed the new hires by name.
The commission also recognized a staffing milestone in the city clerk’s office: Deputy City Clerk Matt earned his certified municipal clerk designation and was promoted from assistant city clerk; colleagues highlighted his potential for future service in the clerk’s office.
The meeting proceeded with proclamations and other agenda items after the ceremonial recognitions.
