On Jan. 20 the North Port City Commission unanimously directed the city manager to bring back a draft facility lease policy that would apply a uniform discount percentage to nonprofit tenants calculated from each property’s market value.
The motion, made by Mayor Emerich and seconded by Commissioner Duvall, passed 5–0 after an extended discussion in which commissioners, staff and the city attorney weighed legal constraints, the equity of a single discount rate and examples showing large differences between current rents and market rates.
