Maine Senate honors late lawmakers and recognizes pageant winners and guests

The Maine Senate used floor time to adopt memoriam resolutions and recognize guests from across the state.
The body read and adopted a memoriam honoring Lillian Theresa O’Brien of Lewiston, recounting her decades of public service in social work, local government and the state legislature. Family members were invited to rise and accept the Senate’s condolences.
The Senate also adopted a joint resolution honoring the late Representative Cathy Irene Jabner of Chester. Multiple senators delivered extended tributes describing her legislative service, mentorship, community work and international outreach, and the Jabner family attended the chamber to receive the Senate’s condolences.
In addition, the chamber recognized several pageant winners and youth honorees, including Vivian Courtway of Peru (American Miss National Young Miss), Joanna Cody of Presque Isle (American Miss National Teen), Alexa and Lisonbee Largay and Adeline Ellaway. The chair also introduced honorary pages and the medical provider of the day.
The Senate returned to other business after the tributes and recognitions and reminded members of an evening joint convention for the governor’s address.
