North Port approves Emergency Operations Center funding and $12.7M construction amendment

North Port’s commission approved multiple items to advance an Emergency Operations Center (EOC) on Dec. 9, including a budget/CIP amendment and a construction contract amendment with Ajax Building Company.
Staff presented Ordinance 2025‑34, a non‑district budget and capital improvement budget amendment to provide additional funding of $1,685,105 for the EOC project, which the commission adopted on second reading, 5–0. City Manager Jerome Fletcher then presented a companion first amendment to the construction manager at‑risk contract (2024‑16.002) with Ajax Building Company LLC for Phase 2 construction at a price of $12,748,398; the commission approved the amendment 5–0.
Separately, City Clerk read Resolution 2025‑R‑88 ratifying the Master Services Agreement with Hotwire Communications for the Police Department PD3 site; that resolution and a separate 36‑month Hotwire services agreement for Welland Park also passed. Commissioners emphasized the desire to complete the EOC work promptly. "Let's get it done," Vice Mayor Langdon said after the motion to approve the contract.
All EOC motions passed unanimously; staff noted the EOC construction will proceed according to the approved contract documents and budget adjustments.
