Mary Torres, representing the Rockdale County District Attorney’s Office victim services, presented the county’s Domestic Violence Awareness Month activities during the Oct. 28 board meeting and described targeted outreach and education efforts.
“October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, a time dedicated to honoring survivors, supporting families, and standing together as a community to end abuse,” Torres said, and outlined projects including a junior district attorney program placing purple flags and door hangers, yard signs in parks with resource information, participation in the Race Against Violence and a digital campaign that reached “over 10,000 people” across Instagram and Facebook in the month.
Chair Janice Fanas read a proclamation noting the scope of domestic violence and declaring October 2025 as Domestic Violence Awareness Month in Rockdale County. The proclamation cited national estimates and urged residents to learn warning signs and participate in prevention and support efforts.
The board’s action at the meeting was to issue the proclamation; no additional budget appropriations or policy directives were made on the record. Torres and staff thanked the board for the recognition and for continued community support.
