Mountain Brook Board approves RJ Young safety-technology project and several campus upgrades

She recommended moving forward with RJ Young; Dr. Richard Barlow supported the recommendation. Mrs. Anna Comer moved to approve the RJ Young quote and Mrs. Anne Schilleci seconded; the Board approved the move unanimously. The meeting minutes do not list a dollar amount for the approved quote.
Director of Facilities Tommy Prewitt reported ongoing and recently completed projects at several campuses. At Brookwood Forest Elementary the district is expanding the playground with picnic tables and a shade structure and added a new kindergarten classroom and two new offices; the school also received new A/C units in sixth-grade classrooms and fresh paint in the kindergarten hall. Cherokee Bend Elementary received a new storage room in the auditorium, upgraded lights and sound and new siding for a restroom building. Crestline Elementary is undergoing ceiling, lighting, paint and flooring work. At Mountain Brook Elementary the auditorium is getting new acoustical treatments and a PTO-funded turf area between the tennis courts. Mountain Brook Junior High had 11 classrooms receive new air-conditioning units.
Next steps: Operations and the superintendent’s office will finalize contract details and project timelines with RJ Young; the minutes record a planned follow-up but do not include contract costs or a vendor timeline.
