Mountain Brook Board adopts FY2026 budget as enrollment rises to near‑historic level

The Mountain Brook Board of Education unanimously approved the Fiscal Year 2026 budget on Sept. 8 during a regular meeting at Brookwood Forest Elementary School.
Dr. Richard Barlow, the district superintendent, introduced Chief School Finance Officer Kari Austin to present the FY2026 financials during the second budget hearing. After the presentation, Board President Jenifer Kimbrough asked for a motion to adopt the budget; Mr. Daniel Odrezin moved, Mrs. Anne Schilleci seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.
The budget vote followed Austin’s presentation of the district’s financial statements and a separate approval of the August 2025 financials earlier in the meeting. Board members approved both motions by unanimous vote.
During the meeting, Dr. Barlow said district enrollment has increased this year, reaching what he described as the fourth‑highest level in the district’s 35‑year history and the highest in 13 years. Board members did not request additional amendments to the FY2026 budget during the hearing.
No dollar totals for the approved FY2026 budget were included in the presented minutes. The district scheduled its next regular board meeting for Oct. 20, 2025 at Cherokee Bend Elementary School.
