Mountain Brook board recognizes students and staff; announces parent conference and next meeting

The Board of Education of the City of Mountain Brook recognized district educators and students during its Jan. 12, 2026 meeting at Mountain Brook Junior High School.
Items on the recognitions agenda included the 2025–2026 Mountain Brook City Schools Elementary and Secondary Teachers of the Year; the 7th- and 8th-grade boys’ and girls’ cross-country teams for Metro championships; Olivia Pope as a SELI graduate; and Kinleigh Freeman for selection to the United States Senate Youth Program.
Board President Jenifer Kimbrough called for a moment of silence during opening remarks to honor former employee Tonja Curry. The board also announced community items: the All In Mountain Brook Parent Conference on Wednesday, Jan. 14 (5:30–7:15 p.m.) at Mountain Brook Junior High School; district closures for Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, Jan. 19; and the next board meeting on Monday, Feb. 9, 2026, at Mountain Brook High School (2:00 p.m. work session, 3:30 p.m. board meeting).
