The Mountain Brook Board of Education on Dec. 15, 2025, tabled two curriculum proposals to allow additional community review. Dr. Missy Brooks, director of curriculum and instruction, presented both the AP Business/Personal Finance Course Curriculum Framework and the MBHS Media Arts Course of Study. Superintendent Dr. Richard Barlow recommended tabling both items until the Board’s Jan. 12, 2026 meeting to solicit community feedback.
For the AP Business/Personal Finance framework, Dr. Brooks presented the curriculum proposal and Dr. Barlow asked that the item be deferred for community input; Mr. Daniel Odrezin moved to table, Mrs. Anne Schilleci seconded, and the motion carried unanimously. For the MBHS Media Arts Course of Study, Dr. Brooks presented the framework and Dr. Barlow again recommended tabling; Mrs. Anne Schilleci moved to table, Mr. Jeffrey Brewer seconded and the Board voted unanimously to defer.
The Board did not take final action on either curriculum at the Dec. 15 meeting; both items are scheduled for further consideration at the Jan. 12, 2026 Board meeting. No public comment on these items is recorded in the minutes for this session.
