Mountain Brook board tables art course for community review; approves financials, personnel and selects AASB delegate

The Mountain Brook Board of Education met Monday, Nov. 10, 2025, at Crestline Elementary School and unanimously approved several routine items while tabling a proposed Art Course of Study for broader community input.
Dr. Richard Barlow, superintendent, recommended approval of the Oct. 20, 2025 meeting minutes; Mr. Daniel Odrezin moved to approve and Mrs. Anne Schilleci seconded. The motion passed unanimously. Later in the meeting Dr. Barlow recognized Kari Austin, chief school finance officer, who presented financial statements for September and October 2025; Mrs. Anna Comer moved to approve the financials, Mr. Jeffrey Brewer seconded, and the board voted unanimously to adopt the reports.
Under new business, Dr. Barlow recommended approval of all personnel recommendations. Mr. Daniel Odrezin moved and Mrs. Anne Schilleci seconded the motion; the board approved the personnel slate unanimously.
Dr. Missy Brooks, director of curriculum and instruction, presented a committee—developed Art Course of Study. Dr. Barlow recommended that the board table the proposal to allow time for community review and input. Mrs. Anne Schilleci moved to table the Art Course of Study until the next board meeting on Monday, Dec. 15, 2025; Mrs. Anna Comer seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
On representation, Dr. Barlow recommended the board select its delegate to the Alabama Association of School Boards. Mrs. Anna Comer moved that Mrs. Anne Schilleci serve as the AASB delegate for Mountain Brook Schools for 2025—2026; Mr. Daniel Odrezin seconded and the nomination was approved unanimously.
There were several community announcements recorded, including a retirement celebration for Sam Gaston the evening of the meeting, Veterans Day closures on Nov. 11, a Mountain Brook Schools Foundation grant showcase on Nov. 12, a PTO legislative forum on Nov. 13, Thanksgiving holidays Nov. 26—28, and a community movie night at Mountain Brook High School on Dec. 4. With no further business the board adjourned at 3:56 p.m.
