PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. — At the Feb. 13 Clinton County Legislature meeting, Town of Dannemora Supervisor William Chase addressed the board seeking help to locate a Class 2A wastewater-plant operator to run the Lyon Mountain plant and announced a community fishing derby, "Reeling for Recovery," with proceeds to support addiction-recovery efforts on the weekend of Feb. 16.
Chase told legislators that for the last three years towns have been receiving Board of Elections chargeback invoices late; he said the invoice for the 2018 elections was received on Feb. 7, 2019 after county books were closed at the end of January. County Administrator Michael E. Zurlo said he would look into the timing of the invoices.
Chairperson Harry McManus and other legislators thanked Jonathan Beach of Altona for his service as County Legislator from Area 2; McManus cited Beach's support for economic development and airport infrastructure and wished him well.
Why it matters: Delays in Board of Elections chargeback invoices can affect towns' year-end accounting and budgeting. The search for a licensed wastewater operator reflects operational staffing challenges in small towns; the county's assistance could speed hiring or referrals.
What’s next: Michael Zurlo said he would investigate the chargeback timing; no outcome was recorded in the meeting minutes.
