County Attorney Christie Fox told the Floyd County Board of Commissioners the county is moving to reprocess properties that have failed to sell at tax sale by adopting Resolution 2026-01, which sets the intent to conduct a commissioner sale and attaches an exhibit listing parcels and minimum bids (set at 75% of assessed value). The resolution and exhibit identify parcels the county expects to place for sale to return long-inactive properties to the tax rolls.
The commissioners voted to approve Resolution 2026-01; County Attorney Fox said the resolution will be posted online the next day and the sale is being targeted for April. The board also approved a contract addendum that would allow SRI (which currently assists the treasurer's and auditor's offices) to help conduct the commissioner sale; SRI would receive 15% of proceeds collected plus the county would be responsible for costs and required legal notices.
Why this matters: the commissioner sale is a mechanism to return tax-delinquent properties to revenue-producing status; the county noted some properties have been inactive for more than 20 years. The SRI arrangement creates a vendor-managed process with explicit fee terms that commissioners approved.
What’s next: the resolution and exhibit will be posted online and staff aim to set the sale date (targeted for April); staff will finalize the SRI contract addendum and post required legal notices.
