Gallagher described the proposed alignment, noting the boardwalk would make up roughly 55% of the greenway length in the current design and that the estimated project cost at 30% design is approximately $850,000—lower than the initial project estimate. Commissioners asked about materials for the boardwalk and the longevity of those materials; Gallagher said the design team is targeting timber with a service life of about 50 years. Gallagher also said the retaining wall is not expected to be required as the design advances to 60%.
Commissioners pressed staff on maintenance responsibilities and funding. Assistant Town Manager Josh Watkins and Mayor Wills discussed current grant opportunities and other funding the town could pursue. The presenter agreed to provide a cost comparison for alternate materials so the board can weigh maintenance needs against upfront cost.
No formal action was taken; the presentation was informational and staff will return with updated cost comparisons and the next-level design milestones.
