Cramerton commissioners approve $50,000 support for Confluence/Catawba Riverkeeper; disbursement schedule deferred

The Cramerton Board of Commissioners voted 3-2 on June 29 to approve a $50,000 operating grant request by Confluence in partnership with Catawba Riverkeeper to support arts, music and recreation initiatives in town, while directing staff and Confluence to clarify how the funds will be disbursed.
John Searby of Confluence outlined proposed uses: $15,000 toward visual-arts programming (including $10,000 for an arts festival and $5,000 for an artist-in-residence), $15,000 for music programming including Fork Fest and lessons, funds for recreation—such as adding equipment and providing some free activities for Cramerton residents—and $5,000 for marketing. Searby asked that the first payment be larger to help with festival planning.
Commissioner Helms moved to approve the $50,000 agreement for the upcoming year while including three items of clarity requested by the board: (1) a portion of funds must be used for marketing targeted to Cramerton residents and signage acknowledging town support; (2) explicit clarity on benefits for Cramerton residents; and (3) clarity on profit-sharing arrangements. Commissioner Kincaid seconded the motion. The minutes record the vote as 3-2 in favor.
Although the motion carried, the minutes state that the disbursement dates and amounts were not clear; the board placed that matter on the July 18 agenda for further definition of payment timing and amounts.
The approval authorizes the town to provide supplemental funding aimed at supporting Confluence’s stated arts, music and recreation activities; the July 18 meeting will determine the schedule and mechanics of any payments.
