St. Augustine adopts 7.5-mill property tax rate for fiscal 2025

The City Commission of St. Augustine approved a final ad valorem millage rate of 7.5 mills during a special meeting on Sept. 19, 2024, city Finance Director Melissa Burns said.
"The millage rate remains at 7.5 mills," said Finance Director Melissa Burns, adding that the 7.5-mill rate represents an increase from the rollback rate of 6.9329 mills, an 8.18% increase. Burns said the revenue from the rate will be used to add staff in human resources, building and code enforcement and property services and to continue the city's capital improvement plan.
Commissioner (mover) made the motion to approve Resolution 2024-33 at second reading; the motion was seconded and the resolution was read into the record. The clerk conducted a roll call in which Commissioners Barbara Blonder, Roxanne Horvath and Cynthia Garris recorded "Yes" votes; the resolution was presented as adopted and will be signed by Vice Mayor Roxanne Horvath on behalf of Mayor Nancy Sykes Klein.
The Finance Director noted the millage had been tentatively adopted two weeks earlier by Resolution 2024-32 and was presented consistent with prior budget workshops. No members of the public spoke during the hearing on the millage.
The commission did not specify additional vote tallies in the record beyond the roll call. The resolution will be filed with the city clerk and executed as noted in the reading of the resolution.
